Cannabis Laws in Chester, UK

Chester, like the rest of England and Wales, has the same attitude on cannabis. In the UK it is now a Class B medication. This implies that if you have a very tiny amount of cannabis, and don’t have a valid cause for possessing it, authorities can take action against you. Depending on conditions the police may warn, fine or arrest.

How an event is dealt with can be dependent on things including the amount of cannabis involved, where it was located and the person’s previous drug offenses. The more and more often those who get caught using cannabis can face more and more serious punishments. Under present law possession of a Class B substance can be punishable by a maximum penalty of five years in jail, an infinite fine or both.

Cannabis also remains unlawful to possess in public locations such as streets, parks and other places to which the public has access. Having or using in a place that is quiet or secluded does not make it legal. Smoking cannabis in a crowded location may also draw greater attention because of the fragrance and the effect it might have on those around you.

Using cannabis in a private home is not automatically lawful either. It will depend on the specific circumstances as to what the police action would be. Supplying or sharing cannabis may result in more significant consequences than simply possessing cannabis. The principal exemption is for cannabis-based medicines that are properly prescribed for medical purposes.
